Gurjit Chhokar

Dr Gurjit Chhokar is a Geriatrician at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He has a specialist interest in Movement Disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease.  In particular, over the last few years he has been working with the Palliative Care teams and Parkinson's UK to improve how we support people living with Movement Disorders and Severe Frailty.

Christiane Eaves

Dr Christiane Eaves is a Consultant Geriatrician at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. She completed her medical degree at University of East Anglia before doing post-graduate training in East of England, London and Yorkshire. She also completed an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience with Distinction at University College London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education at University of Leeds. 

Heather Smith

Consultant Pharmacist: Older People

Heather has worked as a Consultant Pharmacist since January 2013 leading on medicines optimisation for older people across Leeds. She reviews complex frail older people including those in intermediate care, trains other healthcare professionals and is involved in various falls and frailty workstreams. She has also led projects to improve medicines-related transfer of care from secondary care to primary care/ community services. Heather is currently Overprescribing Lead for West Yorkshire Integrated Care System. Her research work includes deprescribing, falls, pharmacogenomics and medicines pathways for frail older people. Heather is a fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and a fellow of the RPS Faculty. She is a committee member for the RPS Education and Standards Committee, United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacists Association Care of Older People Group and the British Geriatrics Society Medicines Optimisation Specialist Interest Group. Heather also represents the RPS on the National Falls Prevention Co-ordination Group.

I have been working for Carers Leeds for 7 years.  I deliver Carer Awareness Training to professionals working within GP practices and other healthcare settings including LTHT.  Our vision at Carers Leeds is that all unpaid carers in our city are recognized, valued and supported to live a fulfilling life.  

We provide information, advice and support to unpaid adult carers in Leeds.  We aim to influence others to act and create positive change for unpaid carers.

Jim Eccles

Jim Eccles is a retired consultant physician who worked as a geriatrician at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds for over 30 years. He chaired the Leeds Teaching Hospitals clinical ethics committee for 10 years. He has a diploma in health services management, an MA in healthcare ethics, and a PhD in philosophy following his research on mental capacity and advance directives. Jim taught professional ethics at Leeds University, Leeds Beckett University, and the Yorkshire medical postgraduate deanery, where he led a professional ethics course for 20 years.

Carrie Mulvihill

My name is Carrie Mulvihill and I have worked as a registered nurse for the NHS in Leeds for the last 28 years. My background in nursing has involved working as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at St James’s University Hospital, as a staff nurse in a busy District Nursing Team, and as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) in Health Visiting.

For the past 18 months I have been working in a seconded post of Sepsis/Deterioration Nurse Specialist for Leeds Community Healthcare Trust (LCH).

Before this role, I worked as an Infection, Prevention and Control nurse in the Infection, Prevention and Control Team for LCH.

This role of Sepsis/Deterioration nurse has been pivotal in raising the awareness of sepsis and the delivery of RESTORE2 training to health and social care staff working in nursing / residential / mental health and learning disability care settings and across the wider health economy in Leeds.

Lead Nurse for Older People at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Alison qualified in 1991 and has worked extensively in Older Adult areas since then representing LTHT at local, regional and national levels. She is passionate about improving the experiences of Older people, their family and staff who care for them. She teaches on our one day course for nurses.

The continence promotion team comprises of Chelsey Carrigan, team leader, Eleni Loukou and Coreene Nickie. The team are passionate about all things bladder and bowel, and love nothing more than to share that knowledge with colleagues. The continence promotion team offers a unique in-patient bladder and bowel continence service, in which they assess, plan and manage patient’s needs, alongside education across LTHT. 

Graham Sutton

Dr Graham Sutton is an Elderly Medicine consultant at St James’ University Hospital in Leeds: He did his undergraduate medical training, as well as intercalated degree in pharmacology, at the University of Leeds and completed his registrar training in Dublin, Mid Yorkshire and Leeds before becoming a consultant at St James in Leeds in July 2010. Since becoming a consultant he has worked mainly on Elderly Medicine admissions wards and have a special interest in falls, dizziness and syncope.

He was clinical lead for his department from July 2015 until May 2019, when he became clinical lead for Leeds Home Ward (Frailty) – a hospital at home service; he remains the clinical lead for that service. Having completed a masters degree in Medical Law and Ethics he has an interest in complaints and clinical investigation work. He is a keen football fan and supports Crystal Palace, although most of his time out of work is spent with family including two very active young children.

Sadia Ismail

Dr Sadia Ismail is a Consultant Geriatrician at Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust since 2012, with clinical interests including Community Geriatrics and Non-Specific Symptoms.  She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education with Distinction at University of Leeds.  Having completed a Master's degree in Medical Law and Ethics with Distinction, she has chaired the Leeds Teaching Hospital Clinical Ethics Committee since 2017 and is now also a Medical Examiner in Leeds.

Faye Whale

Faye Whale has worked in community, hospice, oncology, and acute care settings.  She is currently a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Adult Specialist Palliative Care team at LTHT.

Annette Clarkson

Annette is the Business Development Manager for Medical Education at Leeds Teaching Hospitals and has been with the Trust since 2002.  She and her team are responsible for the administration of many courses/bootcamps etc including the Frailty Events.  

Chris Stothard

Lead Professional MCA/MAH team.

Chris qualified as an RN in 1993 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and started his career working with sick children. Initially in Doncaster then Cornwall. In 2000, following a short break from nursing to pursue a musical career, Chris started work at Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds, caring for people with complex palliative care needs and those approaching the end of their lives. In 2007, Chris joined the LTHT specialist palliative care team as an End-of-Life Care Nurse specialist where he worked until Sept 2022. Following a successful secondment as the Advance Care Planning project lead nurse, he joined the MCA/MHA team as Lead Professional.

Chris is also a qualified football coach and has coached his son’s football team from under 8’s age group up to under 17’s. He is married to Jenny and has two teenagers and two dogs.

Lesley Wood

Lesley is administration team leader in Medical Education Leeds. She is responsible for administering the Clinical Skills and Simulation course portfolio and supports the Frailty Education Course.
